I stumbled across the blog Historically Inaccurate today, and I’m hooked. Artist Richard Saja is doing some amazing things with toile. Many of his pieces are hand embroidered to give an edgy twist to what is typically a very traditional fabric. Be sure to click on these images to get the full impact. I love this throw pillow featuring a bird couple:

But it’s not all embroidery. He’s also done something he calls “Frankentoile” – here he has taken different colorways of the same fabric and stitched them together for a completely different look:
